Many of those involved with the multiple forms of drug abuse think that their actions yield no consequences; drug abuse, to them, is normal and acceptable. To those around them, drug abuse can ruin lives. For those who need to work to make money, a drug addiction can easily ruin a career.
A career in the workplace always starts at the bottom. Drug abuse can easily affect these first few steps. Drug addiction can start at any time, but easily affects younger adults who are starting to form their careers. If drug abuse affects their job by coming in late to work or not showing up for work at all, they could easily be fired. This will keep them from moving up the ladder in their career. Drug abuse can cause the addict to lose their job.
Drug abuse can create multiple problems. Money can often be an issue. Money earned from a job often goes toward the drug abuse itself. Money that would need to go to things like rent, car payments, insurance, and groceries, goes toward the drug abuse. No house, no food, and no car can ruin a career. Drug abuse can cause addicts to forget things or purposely skip multiple events. The drug addiction helps ruin the chances of keep the job.
Keeping a job with drug abuse can be incredibly difficult. Late drug binges can lead to showing up late to work or not showing up to all. Neither of these things look good to an employer. Spending the money for vital needs on drugs can lead to a more difficult time at work; going to work high is never good. Going to work high and hungry is worse. Drug abuse can lead to a slippery slope on the career path that will lead to disappointing results, and a wait in the unemployment line. It is better to seek addiction treatment early than let the addiction ruin your life in this way.
